Suggested Itinerary

Day 5: In Agra. Drive to the Chambal Sanctuary

A romantic farewell visit to the Taj Mahal at sunrise. After breakfast, visit the 16th century Agra Fort, built by successive Mughal Emperors, see Emperor Akbar’s mausoleum at Sikandra, and make comparisons at the Itmad-ud-Daulah, the 17th century tomb of a Persian nobleman and considered to be a pre-cursor to the Taj Mahal. After lunch, drive south 70kms (90min) to the National Chambal Sanctuary for your 2-night wildlife safari experience. In the evening, set off on a river cruise on the Chambal River looking out for the highly endangered gharial crocodile, Gangetic dolphins, river otters and numerous bird species that dot the ravines and banks of this protected river.

Day 6: In the Chambal Sanctuary

In the morning, go on a camel safari along the river bank, through the ravines looking for wildlife, and up to the crumbling atmospheric ruins of the 17th century Fort Ater, the scene of numerous battles between the Rajputs, Mughals and Marathas. In the afternoon, rest or go on a short nature walk in the surroundings of your wildlife lodge, trying to spot some of the 300 bird species found in the Chambal.

Day 7: Drive to Delhi. Fly home.

In the morning after breakfast, depart for Agra and Delhi carrying a packed lunch with you. Arrive Delhi Airport and fly home.
