Day 3: Drive, Fly or Train to Delhi

Wake-up early in the morning for a 3-hour cycling tour of Old Delhi. Drive through narrow lanes past the frenzied flower and spice markets. The sleepy streets are awaking slowly which is a magnificant experience to cycle through. After that the lanes and alleyways become crowded with people, cows, donkeys, and cycle rickshaws. Along the way, pass ancient mosques, climb up a building rooftop for spectacular views, pedal past the Red Fort and Jama Masjid and have breakfast at the legendary Karim’s. Then have a quick stop at the Red Fort, before you head back to your hotel for a well-deserved shower and rest.  In the afternoon, enjoy some great shopping at Khan Market or Santushti, in the diplomatic enclaves. Take an evening flight back home to Chennai or Bangalore.

Day 4: In New Delhi. Fly back home

Places: Jaipur & Delhi | Activities: Ride an elephant up the Amber Fort in Jaipur; drink in the winter sun  at the impressive Jaipur City Palace; click away crazy at the Palace of Winds; shop till you drop in the Pink City; visit Old & New Delhi sights; delicious food and superb shopping in Delhi's streets and boutiques.

Have a Friday holiday or just need a break from Monday blues? The perfect antidote to an overload of idly and dosa is this short 3-night break combining the best of Jaipur and Delhi. Make use of the convenient direct flight (you don’t need to change aircraft) to Jaipur from Chennai. Spend three days discovering some of Rajasthan’s most photographed royal legacies – the Palace of Winds, and the Amber Fort. Surrender to the pleasures of bargaining and shopping on the pink city’s bustling and colourful streets. And cap it off with a quick whirl of Delhi, India’s magnificent capital with its contrasts of ancient world and modern progress.

Fly direct to Jaipur from Chennai. In the afternoon, visit the City Palace and the Palace of the Winds. Also see the Astronomical Observatory, built by Maharaja Jai Singh. In the evening, have a splendid traditional Rajasthani meal at one of many restaurants in the city’s fine hotels.

Make a morning excursion to Amber Fort slowly meandering up the steep ascent perched atop an elephant. Then relive the history of the Kacchhwaha Rajputs, and the founding of the Jaipur Royal State. In the afternoon, visit some of Jaipur’s celebrated textile and apparel designer outlets, as well as explore Old Jaipur with its warren of narrow alleys and little shops selling art, craft, footwear and jewellery from across the desert province.
