| Itineraries

Day 2: Drive to Agra

Day 3: Drive to Jaipur

Make a morning excursion to Amber Fort slowly meandering up the steep ascent perched atop an elephant. In the afternoon visit the delightful Palace of Winds, the City Palace Complex and the fascinating Astronomical Observatory.

Day 4: In Jaipur

Places: Delhi; Agra; Jaipur, Ranthambhore National Park  | Activities: Visit Old & New Delhi sights; see the Taj Mahal at sunset and sunrise;  explore the Agra Fort; see the ghost capital city of Emperor Akbar; ride an elephant up the Amber Fort in Jaipur; drink in the impressive Jaipur City Palace; click away crazy at the Palace of Winds; shop till you drop in the Pink City; see tigers and wildlife on jeep safari in Ranthambhore.

End your Golden Triangle holiday with a two-night wilderness safari experience at one of India’s best tiger reserves, the Ranthambhore National Park. Located across an expanse of 227 square kilometres, the park is the westernmost habitat of tigers in the world, and is an island of wildlife conservation, surrounded by degraded forest and overdeveloped farmland that continuously puts pressure on this habitat. The terrain is rugged and hilly and this is perhaps one of the few patches of deciduous dry-forest in India. Strong conservation practices, a largely alert forest protection force, and enlightened hospitality owners, have ensured that you as a traveller can personally experience the diverse fauna and flora here (over 40 species of mammals and 320 species of birds).

Tiger numbers have sprung back to a healthy 31 (although 2 cubs were reportedly killed in a farmer conflict recently), making jeep safaris an excellent way to get lucky spotting the elusive cat. Back after dusty yet rewarding safaris, you can choose from and stay at a wide variety of accommodations – from luxury tented safari camps, intimate retreats to old colonial hunting lodges.

Arrive New Delhi by a morning flight from Chennai or Bangalore, and transfer to your hotel. Then depart for the walled city of Shahjahanabad in Old Delhi that encloses the mighty Jama Masjid and Red Fort. Enjoy a delightful rickshaw ride along Chandni Chowk. After lunch at one of the many market restaurants in New Delhi, visit the Humayun’s Tomb, the resting place of one of the early Mughal rulers, and the inspiration behind the Taj Mahal. Then drive through New Delhi, the 9th version of this great city and built by Lutyens. Lastly go back in time to the 12th century at the Qutb Minar in South Delhi, the massive victory tower of the first Islamic rulers of India – the Afghans. In the evening, head out to Hauz Khas village for some sundown exploration of this urban refuge with its shops and galleries and well-lit 14th century ruins.

In the morning, drive to Agra. After lunch, visit the Agra Fort, built by successive Moghul Emperors, the Itmad-ud-Daulah and finally an unforgettable sunset visit to the Taj Mahal, the white marble blushing as the last rays of sunlight caress this monument to love.

In the morning relax at your hotel or perhaps wandering the colourful bazaars of Jaipur. Then take a 3-hour train ride from Jaipur to Sawai Madhopur, the staging point for the Ranthambhore National Park. In the evening, go on jeep safari in the park confines.

Day 5: Train to Ranthambhore

Go on a dawn jeep safari and relax the rest of the morning. In the afternoon, go on a birding trip, visit a local community of weavers, or climb the 1000-year old Ranthambhore Fort located on the periphery of the park. Alternatively, take in another jeep safari in the evening.

Day 6: In Ranthambhore National Park

In the morning, take an early train to New Delhi. Arrive Delhi and transfer to the airport. Fly back to Chennai or Bangalore by an evening flight.
