For those who have more time and wanting to see some of South Africa’s hidden beauty, there is no better way to see this gorgeous country than slowing down and travelling by road. And once you are off the beaten track, some of the country’s best kept secrets show themselves – from the landlocked little kingdom of Swaziland, to the Kwa-Zulu Natal wildlife reserves of St Lucia, Mhkuze, and Hluhluwe (the oldest game park in Africa.) and the stunning picture-postcard Drakensberg Mountains that rise like an impenetrable green fortress separating Lesotho from South Africa.
You also get to do the most popular sights and have the most memorable experiences – Cape Town and its iconic Table Mountain, the Garden Route with its beautiful seaside towns and rolling vales. And see the big 5 on game safari all rolled up into one convenient place at the mighty Kruger National Park.
Depart India after midnight and arrive into Dubai in the morning. Take a quick connecting flight from Dubai direct into Johannesburg, arriving in the afternoon. Transfer to your hotel.
Travel via the panorama route. Blyderivierspoort Nature Reserve stretches from the pinnacle near to Graskop to Swadini in the north. The magnificent Blyde River Canyon, a gigantic gorge, is one of the natural wonders of Africa. On both sides of the canyon, sand stone cliffs rise 700 m above the river bed. These cliffs are dominated by three circular projections called the Three Sisters or Three Rondawels. God’s Window provides a view that is one of life’s great experiences. Arrive into your hotel close to the Kruger Park.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Enter the Kruger National Park and in the company of your tour guide enjoy a full day safari experience. This major international tourist draw card offers a wilderness experience, which ranks with the best in Africa. The sight of elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo is always a thrill, especially at close range.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Depart Hazyview and head south to Swaziland. After the
border formalities, enter the Kingdom of Swaziland. The landlocked Kingdom is surrounded on the north and south by provinces of South Africa, and on the east is bordered by Mozambique. The Kingdom provides travellers the ideal gateway between Kwazulu-Natal and the Kruger National Park - no better route is available with added advantage of discovering a whole new country filled with bygone African traditions and culture. Arrive at the Ezulwini Valley and check into your hotel.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Depart Swaziland and head south towards Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal. Check into your hotel located at the foot of the legendary Ghost Mountain. Depart on an evening game drive, experience the African night with its magnificent skies and the possibility of nocturnal species such as ant-bear (aardvark), leopard, genets, night jars and a host of smaller creatures. The night also allows one the opportunity to use other senses and to relax to the sounds and aroma of Africa.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Depart on a boat cruise. Lake Jozini lies in a dramatic setting at the foot of the Lebombo Mountains and is one of South Africa's largest dams. There are several exquisite gorges which abound with a wide variety of birds. On the western side of the dam one might see elephant, rhino, hippo and crocodile. The 13 varieties of fish found in the dam include tilapia, catfish, and the sought after tiger fish.
Enjoy another afternoon game drive into the Hluhluwe Game Reserve. The oldest game park in Africa (along with nearby St Lucia), this reserve was proclaimed to prevent white rhino from becoming extinct. Enjoy dinner at the hotel.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Depart Ghost Mountain and drive towards Durban. Reach the city in the afternoon. Drop off is at your Durban hotel. Go on a three-hour tour of Durban beginning with a drive along Durban's Golden Mile continuing to the harbour entrance for a short stop. Travelling along the Victoria Embankment the tour passes the Vasco Da Gama clock, the Dick King statue and the Yacht Club. After passing the sugar terminal and the University of Natal, the tour proceeds through the residential areas of Berea and Morningside to the Botanical Gardens with its splendid orchid house. The last stop on the tour is at the famous Indian Market full of spices and souvenirs. Pass the Post Office & City Hall in the city centre, and return to the hotel.
Meet your English-speaking driver at Durban International Airport or at your Durban hotel. Travel to you hotel set deep in the Drakensberg Mountains of Kwa-Zulu Natal. The mountain range has taken its rightful place on the international tourism stage with the proclamation of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park as a World Heritage Site. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. Dinner is at your hotel and offers an extensive buffet of superb culinary creations, personally overseen by the hotel's team of top-class chefs.
After enjoying a leisurely breakfast at your hotel, you have the full day at leisure for activities to suit both young and old such as hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, golf, helicopter flips etc. A guided mountain walk, with panoramic views from lookout oints along the way is sure to leave visitors feeling revitalised and alive.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel before departing on your transfer back to Durban International Airport. Fly Durban to Port Elizabeth and you are transferred to your hotel.
Leaving Port Elizabeth, you embark via the high forests of the Tsitsikamma onto one of South Africa’s most well-known areas – the Garden Route. Gaze in awe at the scenery whilst crossing the suspension bridge over the Storms River where photographic opportunities abound. And stop for lunch at the scenic Storms River Mouth.
After lunch, continue onto the Tsitsikamma Forest area. Attractions here include the Big Tree. Remember to keep an eye out for the rare Knysna Loerie. Then drive via the 'millionaires’ playground' of Plettenberg Bay to stop for refreshments at Knysna's East Head. And then swing by South Africa's 'Oyster Capital', Knysna, before reaching the quaint village of Wilderness. Enjoy a superb dinner at the hotel or one of the nearby restaurants, located within walking distance.
From your hotel in Wilderness, travel to Knysna to embark on the Featherbed Nature Reserve ferry from the Knysna Waterfront. On arrival take a 'Unimog' (tractor driven wagon) ride to the top of the Western Head. An optional hike can be taken through the indigenous Knysna forest to the restaurant area where lunch is served. On your return to Knysna, depart for an elephant experience, where you are able to enjoy a very close encounter with these gigantic mammals. Finally we take the scenic drive back to Wilderness to your hotel.
In the morning, depart Wilderness, stopping briefly at the Diaz Museum in Mossel Bay. Continue through the semi-arid region of Little Karoo, traversing the scenic Tradouw Pass. Stop for a traditional South African lunch in a typical country restaurant in Barrydale.
In the afternoon, drive through Montagu, a quaint country village and enjoy a wine tasting en-route. And then arrive into Cape Town after driving through the town of Robertson and via the stunning landscapes of the Du Toit’s Kloof Pass.
In the morning, go up Table Mountain when the crowds are less and the air is clear and crisp. Take the cable car to the summit of South Africa’s most recognized icon for the most spectacular views of Cape Town. In the afternoon, visit Robben Island. Declared a Cultural World Heritage Site, Robben Island is where former president Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for more than two decades. Catch the hourly ferry from the V&A Waterfront. On your return, get in some shopping at the V&A Waterfront, with loads of restaurants, bars and shops housed in restored warehouses.
Enjoy a visit to Hout Bay, a colourful fishing harbour and picturesque village filled with arts and crafts. You have the option of joining-in on an optional cruise to Seal Island to view the several thousand summer-resident cape fur seals that lollop among the kelp forests. Continue on to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve to see indigenous fauna and flora that are conserved in this priceless wilderness area. The scenery en route to Cape Point, at the South Western tip of the reserve, is particularly lovely. Also visit the penguin colony at Boulder’s Beach that is home to a thriving colony of over 700-jackass penguins. Last stop is at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, regarded as one of the top 7 botanical gardens in the world.
Transfer to Cape Town Airport. Fly back home via Dubai.
